Recently I was talking to a friend about time management, and I thought of a few helpful resources to share.
NirvanaHQ is a cloud based To Do list, based on the book “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. Great book, great idea (about collecting all your thoughts before they escape, prioritizing them, and acting on them.) and great program. Did I mention it’s free?!
For you visual learners and creative types, Droptask is another great To Do list application, also cloud based, with beautiful colors and shapes to keep your interest.
I’m old fashioned, and prefer my to do lists on paper, but whether you choose to go digital or no, here are some general tips to stay on top of your time:
Have a consistent schedule. As much as possible, if you can schedule similar things at the same time every day or week, you will have an easier time getting them done. If 3-5pm is homework time every day, or Monday mornings are house cleaning time, it’s harder to convince yourself that “I’ll do it tomorrow”.
Set a timer. Give yourself an allotted amount of time to get something done. If I know I have 45 minutes to write a blog post, I’m less likely to get distracted and watch cat videos. (or, sometimes not. Cute clips of cats are the whole purpose of the internet, right?)
I hope some of these ideas help make your to do list more manageable, or at least more fun. Now get out there and cross something off!
